About a Song

This post is the first of what will be a regular feature entitled "About a Song". For most songs, this will be brief essays about the history, influence, or unique properties of specific songs that have been favorites of mine over the years, or new songs that strike me as special. For the first song in this series though, I have chosen to just put down a few thoughts that struck me when I  heard this song last night while driving..

'Blood Bank' by Bon Iver.
Sometimes love is as much about possession and and having and conquering as it is about desire and warmth and comfort and bliss. Sometimes it is about finding something perfect you thought you'd never attain and holding it as tight as possible so it doesn't escape. About feeling worth and holding beauty previously unknown or beyond measure. Sometimes it is a rickety crutch on sheer ice. Sometimes it is about taking the risk to make yourself entirely fragile.
Sometimes it is about being shattered and looking back on a perfect moment to find solace.

This song never fails to make my hair stand on end.
