From Tempe, AZ: Spinning Jenny

During the 1990s it was my pleasure to live in what was one of the best small cities in America, Tempe AZ. I could go on about how great Tempe was in it's glory days and how it has changed for the better and for the worse, but I won't. I just wanted to mention some of the good things from back then. Tempe was cheap, friendly, convenient, and had (much like all of  PHX metro back then) an outstanding live music scene.
People may know Tempe as the home of the Gin Blossoms and the Refreshments, but it was much more than that. My personal favorite was Spinning Jenny (later known as the Jennies). I was never a fan of Pop save the Beatles and XTC until I saw this band for the first time. From then on I saw them as often as possible. A combination of excellent songwriting, three part harmonies, and outstanding musicianship made them a true gem as a live band. It has been about a decade since their demise, but the chief singer/songwriter Steve Easterling and lead guitarist Freddy Gildersleeve are still making music. You can go here to listen to what they are up to now on bandcamp.com.
A prime example of their excellence is this song featured below. They had so many good songs that this one never made it onto either of their Cds.
Enjoy!
Cheers, C
