Midnight Oil Occupying NYC: Exxon Protest Meet 12:00 noon 30 May 1990, New York, USA

I have currently been on a 'rediscovering Aussie Rock' binge. That country has such a wealth of talent (check out one of our sister Loudcaster.com stations, AUFM.org here)-just what was heard here and got popular: Men at Work, Crowded House, INXS, and my favorites: Hoodoo Gurus and Midnight Oil.
I became a fan of 'Art-Pop' back in the 90s completely out of the blue (or so I thought) when I found myself immersed in the Tempe, AZ music scene and realized that alot of my musical sensibilities were similar to those of 'Pop' bands. My respect and admiration for the intense songcraft that goes into building a piece of art that chimes in for only 3:30 seconds has grown immensely over the years. Combine that with me being a total sucker for activist artists and this song epitomizes the capability of art to entertain, engage, and inform. This footage is 21 1/2 years old. These guys were pushing 40 when it was done and were (as a band) 18 years into their careers. Lead singer Peter Garrett has since gone on to become an MP in the Australian Government and actually occupied the post of Minister of the Interior, Culture, and Heritage for some time.
That is called putting your money where your giant fucking 6'7"mouth is.
And they fucking rocked-as you can see from their occupation of NYC in 1990.

I think you'll find he was Federal Minister for environment (did a terrible job) and is now Minister for education (not much better at that).
